The Alaska Board of Massage Therapists adopted regulation changes in Title 12, Chapter 02 and Chapter 79 of the Alaska Administrative Code. The changes were signed and filed by the Lieutenant Governor on May 7, 2021, and the new massage therapy rules will be effective June 6, 2021. The regulation changes impact massage therapy establishments, massage therapy licensure, and continuing education requirements. ABMP has summarized the new rule changes below.
Massage establishment fees (12 AAC 02.396)
This change added a $300 biennial massage therapy establishment registration renewal fee and a $65 massage therapy establishment change of location fee to the fee schedule.
Unregistered massage therapy establishment investigation (12 AAC 79.940)
This is a new section that requires an unregistered massage therapy establishment to pay an investigation fee if they are investigated.
Application for licensure by credentials (12 AAC 79.110)
The rule change in this section allows the board to require extra documentation if needed to verify education declared by an applicant.
Application form and verifications for licensure (12 AAC 79.920)
The rule change in this section modifies the current rule by adding the possibility of additional documentation if needed in the application for licensure.
Continuing education requirements (12 AAC 79.210)
Licensees are now required to document the completion of a CPR course. The new rule also modifies the existing rule regarding attending a board meeting for CE credits: Licensees may receive three CE credits for attending 75 percent of a board meeting once every biennial licensing period.
