As part of the Alaska State Massage License Coalition, a broad coalition of massage therapy organizations and professionals, ABMP has been working over the course of several years for the development of a reasonable massage therapy licensing law in Alaska. Our priorities for a state massage therapy bill have included protecting current practitioners’ right to practice without having to obtain additional education or pass an exam, reasonable entry-level requirements for licensure that are consistent with the rest of the country, and incorporating best practices from lessons learned from the forty-four states and three territories that currently regulate the profession. After much work and input into the bill language, ABMP has now voiced to state legislators that we support the most recent draft of the massage therapy licensing bill.

On February 17, 18, and 19, 2014, massage therapists like you from around the state will be meeting with legislators at the State Capitol in Juneau to discuss passing this legislation. There will be a “Lunch and Learn” event open to all legislators, face-to-face appointments between massage therapists and their legislators, and also possibly a free chair massage clinic in the Capitol building in support of the effort.
