The Iowa Board of Massage Therapy adopted a new continuing education (CE) rule that affects hands-on and online CE renewal requirements effective May 24, 2023.
The newly adopted rule allows licensees to complete eight of the required 16 hours of CE in person or through live, interactive media. Previously, licensed massage therapists had to complete at least eight hours of hands-on continuing education.
Although in-person CE instruction is not required, the Iowa Board of Massage Therapy strongly encourages licensees to obtain in-person instruction, when possible, especially when learning new techniques. Essentially, this rule gives licensees the option to attend in-person instruction or to complete their CE online.
