The New Mexico Legislature is considering establishment licensing with House Bill 155 (HB155).
There is a hearing in the House Judiciary Committee on February 7, 2020, at 1:30 p.m. in room 309 at the Capitol (490 Old Santa Fe Trail). The legislature is on a 30-day legislative session, so all bills are moving quickly.
HB155 would require everyone who has a massage establishment to have a massage establishment license, with penalties for operating without the establishment license. Sole practitioners are not exempt from this requirement.
Attached here is ABMP's letter that we sent to the sponsor and Judiciary Committee members.
We are encouraging the legislature to slow down and consider this bill next year after stakeholder meetings with the massage therapy community.
HB155 is sponsored by Representative Linda M. Trujillo. Please contact Representative Trujillo if you have comments about this bill.
You can appear at the hearing on February 7 or send your comments to the Judiciary Committee members. The Judiciary Committee is made up of the following Representatives: Gail Chasey, Daymon Ely, Eliseo Lee Alcon, Deborah A. Armstrong, Micaela Lara Cadena, Christine Chandler, Zachary J. Cook, Brian Egolf, Dayan Hochman-Vigil, Georgene Louis, Matthew McQueen, Greg Nibert, William R. Rehm, and James G Townsend.
