Under the new Oklahoma massage therapy licensing law, the State Cosmetology Board is responsible for the regulation of massage therapists, with the assistance of a five-member Advisory Board on Massage Therapy. The Advisory Board will assist the Cosmetology Board in carrying out the provisions of the new law with respect to the qualifications, examination, registration, regulation, and standards of professional conduct of massage therapists. The Advisory Board will be composed of three professional massage therapists, one massage school administrator or faculty member, and one public citizen member. Advisory Board members are appointed by the Governor and serve for four-year terms. This is an unpaid position.
The State is now accepting applications for membership on the State Advisory Board on Massage Therapy. Membership on the Advisory Board is a great way to contribute to the vitality of the massage therapy profession as Oklahoma begins its new licensing program. Please consider applying for a position on the Advisory Board.
If you are interested in an Advisory Board seat, you must apply as soon as possible. We have been informed that the State intends to appoint Advisory Board members this month.
