Hearing on Final Approval of PA Massage Fee Increases

We previously emailed you about a proposal to increase regulatory fees for massage therapists in Pennsylvania.  The state Board of Massage Therapy has now submitted the final-form regulation. The Independent Regulatory Review Commission (IRRC) plans to meet and act on this regulation at its public meeting at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 15, 2018. The agenda and any changes to the time or date of the meeting will be posted on IRRC's Web site at www.irrc.state.pa.us.  Click here for additional information on the regulation.

As a result of public comments, the increase to renewal fees in the final-form regulations is lower than what was originally proposed.  The final-form regulations state that renewal fees, which are currently $75 for a two-year renewal, will be increased to $125 for 2018-19, then $150 for 2020-21, and then $175 for 2022 and thereafter.  Originally, a flat increase to $200 had been proposed.  The increases to initial license fees and CE course approval (from $65 to $100) have not been changed.

The process is nearing its final stages; however, comments are still being accepted.  If you would like to submit comments on the regulation to the Board, please submit comments to  RA-MASSAGETHERAPY@PA.GOV by Monday, November 12, 2018. Please also email a copy of your your comments to IRRC at irrc@irrc.state.pa.us.  Please reference Regulation #16A-724 (IRRC #3203) on your email.

All correspondence and documents relating to a regulation submitted to IRRC are a matter of public record and appear on IRRC's Web site.

If you have any substantive questions regarding the regulation, please contact the Board at (717) 783-7200.
