The Pennsylvania Bureau of Professionals and Occupational Affairs released a notice on August 5, 2021, explaining that COVID-19 waivers and suspensions issued during the pandemic will expire in the coming weeks. Below is a list of expiring wavers with their respective expiration dates that affect massage therapists.
- Expiring August 31, 2021—The waiver for online distance learning for massage therapy students. As a result, massage therapy students and schools must complete their educational requirements in the classroom.
- Expiring September 30, 2021—The waiver that allowed online classes to help licensees fulfill continuing education requirements for the current biennial renewal period. As a result, for the renewal cycle ending January 31, 2023, 16 of the required 24 hours of continuing education must be completed in person. Waivers can be obtained through the State Board of Massage Therapy (Board) if necessary.
- Expiring September 30, 2021—The waiver that permits 100% of online CE to satisfy a licensee’s continuing education requirements for their next renewal with hours obtained entirely through distance education. As a result, for the renewal cycle ending January 31, 2023, 16 of the required 24 hours of continuing education must be completed in person. Waivers can be obtained through the Board if necessary.
Note: The following waivers have already expired:
- Expired—The waiver that temporarily waived required CPR certification for massage therapists. CPR certification is required for the renewal cycle ending January 31, 2023.
- Expired—The waiver that extended expiration dates for temporary permits while licensing exam centers were closed. Students will need to fulfill the requirements for licensure moving forward.
