Utah’s Lower Two-Tier Massage Therapy Bill is Back

Utah’s Senate Bill 180 (SB 180) will be heard in committee November 16, 2022. SB 180 seeks to create two lower tiers of licensure for “massage assistants” and “massage assistants in training.” The public can attend the committee meeting in person or virtually to fight the bill.

Kentucky Sales Tax Bill Update

House Bill 8 requires massage therapists to apply a 6 percent sales tax on massage therapy services and will go into effect January 1, 2023. Learn how to create a sales and use tax account and the definition of “medical necessity.”

Mike Arismendez, Keith Warren Elected to FSMTB Board of Directors

Mike Arismendez and Keith Warren were elected by acclamation to serve three-year terms on the Federation of State Massage Therapy Boards (FSMTB) Board of Directors at the 17th annual meeting of the FSMTB in Charlotte, North Carolina, in October.

Arismendez is the executive director of the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation; Warren is the executive director of the Alabama Board of Massage Therapy.

The California Massage Therapy Council (CAMTC) gave notice that fee increases may be discussed at its meeting Tuesday, November 29. Attend the meeting to voice your opinion or submit written commentary before November 19.
