Expect More, with Les: Back in the Saddle Again

We’re in an exciting period of development as an organization, and especially in our service to schools and students.

From 1996 through around 2006, one of my duties for ABMP was visiting massage therapy programs. Since becoming president of ABMP in 2006, my duties have multiplied and some activities have been retired, including getting out on the road and relating to schools—until now, that is.

We’re in an exciting period of our development as an organization, and especially in our service to schools and students. We launched ABMP Exam Coach this past June and have already had a great response. Programs and students alike are looking for useful resources to help them succeed, and all reports so far on ABMP Exam Coach are that it’s meeting the students’ (and schools’) needs. And we’re about to add another great resource for students this month—but you’ll have to wait a few weeks to hear about that.

Part of being on campuses is getting that vibe—I like to think it wasn’t that long ago that I was there, but it’s been 10 years since massage school, over 15 since grad school, and uh, $%#&@ since undergrad. I’ve had to brush up on my terminology to be able to interact with the students—good thing I have a subscription to ABMP Exam Coach smiley.

The best part of being out with students and instructors is the feeling you get—the excitement of people immersing themselves in the world of massage, and the passion with which their teachers share their knowledge and enthusiasm. It’s infectious.

I’ll keep doing this through the fall, and who knows, they might not get me back in the office anytime soon!

US Department of Education 150% Rule Update

A federal judge has granted a preliminary injunction that halts the enforcement of the US Department of Education’s new Bare Minimum Rule, also known as the “100% rule,” until the court takes further action. This is the first step in what could be a lengthy battle to ultimately delay enforcement of the rule, providing schools more time to adjust their programmatic standards, or overturn the rule altogether. Find out more and what your school needs to do to prepare.

Colorado Bill Requires Local Background Checks
