Cal Cates

Cal Cates is the executive director of Healwell and has been teaching and developing curriculum for massage therapy courses focused on hospital-based practice, oncology massage and end-of-life care since 2007. Their experience in clinical practice in hospitals around the US has informed their teaching style greatly. Cal is clear that massage therapy is healthcare and feels a personal commitment to inviting students to consider themselves as integral to a whole person healing process. Cal’s favorite thing about teaching healthcare providers is the ability to blend nerdiness and authenticity to create opportunities to be more effective, more human, and more flexible. Ericka Clinton

Ericka Clinton

Ericka Clinton, LMT, is the dean of the massage therapy program at the Swedish Institute College of Health Sciences in New York City. She also teaches continuing education courses covering topics including oncology massage, shiatsu, medical massage, anatomy, and working with special populations. She currently serves as the president of the board of directors for the Society for Oncology Massage.

Kristin Coverly

Kristin Coverly is a licensed massage therapist, educator, and author. As the director of professional education at ABMP she creates online continuing education courses, resources, and events to support practitioners as they expand and enhance their practices. She is the co-host of The ABMP Podcast, and her articles and Business Side column have appeared in Massage & Bodywork and Body Sense magazines. Whitney Lowe

Whitney Lowe is a contributing author to several books and his articles appear regularly in professional journals and magazines. In 1994, he founded the Academy of Clinical Massage to provide massage therapists the necessary advanced education for treating orthopedic soft-tissue disorders. Til Luchau

Til Luchau is the author of the Advanced Myofascial Techniques series of books and trainings and the lead instructor at Advanced-Trainings.com. A Certified Advanced Rolfer, Luchau was on the faculty of the Dr. Ida Rolf Institute for 20 years, and his regular Myofascial Techniques and Somatic Edge columns have been featured in Massage & Bodywork magazine since 2009. Ruth Werner

Ruth Werner

Ruth Werner is an award-winning educator, longtime writer, and retired massage therapist with a passionate interest in massage therapy research and the role of bodywork for people who live with health challenges. Her groundbreaking textbook, A Massage Therapist’s Guide to Pathology,  was first published in 1998, and is now in its seventh edition and being published by Books of Discovery. She is a columnist for Massage & Bodywork magazine and Massage New Zealand. Ohio Adopts Interstate Massage Compact

The Ohio legislature adopted Senate Bill 56 on June 21, becoming the second state to enact the Interstate Massage Compact. Massage therapists will soon be able to obtain a multistate license that will reduce holdups and delays that often occur when moving to a different state.

US Department of Education 150% Rule Update

A federal judge has granted a preliminary injunction that halts the enforcement of the US Department of Education’s new Bare Minimum Rule, also known as the “100% rule,” until the court takes further action. This is the first step in what could be a lengthy battle to ultimately delay enforcement of the rule, providing schools more time to adjust their programmatic standards, or overturn the rule altogether. Colorado Bill Requires Local Background Checks

Governor Jared Polis signed into law House Bill 24-1371, requiring local government (counties, cities, or municipalities) to conduct periodic criminal background checks for massage establishment operators, owners, and employees.
