ICYMI—Massage & Bodywork Issue Highlights the Suboccipitals, Ankle Sprains, and Palpation

Palpating the Anterior Hip headline superimposed over a cavern.

From nagging headaches and neck pain to ankle injuries to kidney disease, clients bring a lot to your table. In case you missed it, the January–February 2024 issue of Massage & Bodywork was filled with lots of great content and ideas you can bring to the treatment room! Here are some of the highlights from that issue:

Who Doesn’t Have Clients with Head and Neck Pain?

“The Suboccipitals: Small Muscles, Big Impact”

This feature from Erik Dalton details eight simple techniques massage therapists can use to bring lasting relief to clients with head and neck pain.

It’s Basketball Season; Seen Any Ankle Injuries Lately?

“Ankle Sprains: A Rehabilitation Road Map”

From anatomy and biomechanics to assessment and treatment strategies, author Whitney Lowe offers a therapeutic road map on helping clients presenting with these injuries.

Palpation Conversations

“Palpating the Anterior Hip: Think Hills and Valleys”

Joe Muscolino encourages MTs to think about palpation in broader terms. While using attachments and actions of target muscles and adjacent musculature is the palpation “rubric” most MTs are taught, Muscolino challenges practitioners to think of using contour cues, where knowledge of “hills and valleys” can save time and energy.

Speaking of Palpation . . .

“The First Millimeters of Every Massage”

Finally, if you’re not checking out all the goodies that come with each Anatomy for Touch column, you’re missing out. The videos and links in each article layer in a new depth of learning, and this issue has some of the authors’ most stunning dissection photography yet. Find each column’s accompanying content here.

Don't Stop There!

That’s only a fraction of what you’ll find in the January/February 2024 issue of Massage & Bodywork. And don’t forget that members of Associated Bodywork & Massage Professionals can earn free CE with each issue!
