Colorado DORA Responds to Incorrect Information Regarding License Renewal

The following announcement was sent out by the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies in response to incorrect information disseminated by Massage Magazine to Colorado massage therapists and bodyworkers:

Greetings from the Office of Massage Therapy Licensure:

You may have received a notice in the mail appearing to be a renewal reminder for your massage therapy license and professional liability insurance. Please be advised the Office of Massage Therapy Licensure did not send this notice and the information in this notice is not accurate.

If you received this notice, please disregard. This flyer regarding renewal was mailed by a third party using publicly available information. It was not an authorized communication from the Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA).

Please follow these steps in order to maintain licensure and comply with state regulations:

  • Massage therapist licenses expire on December 31, 2018. However, a 60-day grace period exists during which licensees may renew their license without interruption. Licensees are strongly encouraged to renew early to ensure uninterrupted active status. Renewal applications for Massage Therapy will be available by December 1, 2018. Licensees will receive an email notification to the address registered with DORA, providing renewal information. Please make sure your contact information is current in your DORA account to avoid missing important official communications. Your account may be accessed here.
  • Colorado does require licensed massage therapists to carry professional liability insurance, pursuant to Section 12-35.5-116, Colorado Revised Statutes. Liability insurance is widely available through numerous providers. There is no requirement specifying where liability insurance must be purchased.
  • Colorado does not require continuing education or work verification to renew a massage therapy license.

Thank you for your attention to this important matter. Please address any questions you have to DORA_DPO_Licensing@state.co.us or call 303-894-7800.
