Massage Envy Franchising Releases Message to the Profession

Joseph C. Magnacca, Massage Envy Franchising CEO, released a statement titled “Our Message to the Massage Therapy Profession.” In it, Magnacca addresses the recent sexual assaults suffered in Massage Envy franchised locations and their commitment to “swift and meaningful change” to protect both “clients and massage therapists” moving forward.

Magnacca referenced Massage Envy’s new “Commitment to Safety” plan, which outlines efforts in six key areas: Prevention, Reporting, Investigations, Review, Support, and Guidance.

“As part of our six-point plan, franchisees are required to give not just clients, but also therapists who report an allegation of sexual assault, contact information for local law enforcement and offer a private room to complete the call. We will make independent, third-party resources available to assist franchisees in their investigations of sexual assault claims, including those made by therapists,” Magnacca writes.

Magnacca goes on to write about Massage Envy’s partnership with the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network and the creation of a Massage Envy Safety Advisory Council, involving representatives of industry associations.

“Just as we and our franchisees are committed to client safety, we too are laser-focused on providing a safe environment for those 20,000 therapists in the Massage Envy franchise network who make the business what it is today, and what it will be tomorrow,” Magnacca writes.
