A systematic review published in Pain Practice analyzed how music therapy affects pain after orthopedic surgery.
Both music medicine (MM) and music therapy (MT) were found to be effective in significantly relieving pain. According to the review, “music determined by the individuals exhibited significant differences for both MM and MT.” Additionally, patients using MT showed significant improvement in anxiety.
The researchers concluded that music significantly relieves postoperative pain, especially when music is chosen by the participants. Read the full review online at https://doi.org/10.1111/papr.12864.
