California Bill Regarding Bowenwork Failed

As discussed in our most recent Legislative Update, California AB 2793, introduced this past legislative session, proposed prohibiting cities and counties from requiring Bowenwork practitioners to get local massage business licenses (as distinguished from a general business license required of all types of businesses). The bill failed in the state legislature this session and was not signed into law.



New Statutory Requirements for Massage Therapists in Hawaii

Hawaii SB 2863, discussed in our most recent legislative update, has been signed into law. Under the new law, the state can issue a citation and impose a $250 fine per violation to any licensee for:

(1) Operation of a massage therapy establishment without a licensed principal massage therapist or licensed designee in attendance on the premises during business hours;






Oklahoma Now Accepting Applications for Massage Therapy Advisory Board - Apply ASAP If You Are Interested

Under the new Oklahoma massage therapy licensing law, the State Cosmetology Board is responsible for the regulation of massage therapists, with the assistance of a five-member Advisory Board on Massage Therapy. The Advisory Board will assist the Cosmetology Board in carrying out the provisions of the new law with respect to the qualifications, examination, registration, regulation, and standards of professional conduct of massage therapists.
