We've previously let you know that Delaware House Bill 35 is proposing to mandate massage establishment licensing in the state of Delaware. Change to Licensing Requirements in New Jersey

New Jersey Senate Bill 2414 was signed into law on May 1, 2017. Under the new law, people applying for a New Jersey massage therapy license for the first time must have completed 500 hours of massage education and passed a national massage exam. Under the previous law, it was sufficient if license applicants met only one of those two requirements. The new law will not affect people who are currently licensed.

Voice Your Opposition to Proposed Illinois Massage Tax

An amendment was added to Senate Bill 9 in the Illinois Legislature last week which would impose a sales tax on massage therapy services. The bill includes a new list of taxable "personal care services," including massage, manicuring, tattooing, and tanning. However, "personal care services" are excluded from the tax if they are performed by, or under the order of, a licensed physician, physician's assistant, nurse, or a licensed chiropractor. Hair cutting, coloring, and styling are also exempt.
